About the Author
Nancy Heleno began her career in psychology at the Human Emotions
Learning Laboratory at George Mason University in Fairfax County,
Virginia under the tutelage of prolific researcher and writer,
June Price Tangney. Ms. Heleno is co-author of a research paper
published in the Journal of Social and Clinical Psychology and
presented as sole author at the 104th Annual Convention of the American
Psychological Association where she first combined disciplines of research
as in this handbook. She has served as an evaluator of research for the
National Children's Rights Center, worked as a visitation supervisor for the
Fairfax County court system in Virginia,
and has assisted the Northern Virginia
Family Service organization in
editing mandated curriculum for divorcing parents.
In their book on "Throwaway Dads," authors Ross Parke and Armin Brott
cited Ms. Heleno's research on non-custodial fathers among their sources.
Ms. Heleno also holds an MBA and has worked as an employee or a consultant for such corporations as Procter & Gamble, PepsiCo, Chrysler-Plymouth, Billboard Magazine Entertainment Group, and AT&T Communications. She specializes in strategic planning, primary and secondary research, brand positioning and consumer demographics. Ms. Heleno applied this background to her lectures while teaching at five colleges including The American University and Fairleigh Dickinson University.
She resides in Colorado with her husband and son.
